What should I do with this Cal. 343?
This is the watch in question and I have a few concerns.First of all the "Chronometer Officially Certified" text is bolder than the "Omega Automatic" text, and the fonts do not match each other. Also concerned about the spelling of Chronometer. My guess is that part of the text has been redone.Here is another example of a Chronometre that I own.Another thing is this dent or gouge, I don't think it can be polished out. I have also been told that it's been re-cased.The movement runs, but it could use a cleaning. The RG regulator is also missing, so I would need to replace that.The thing is part of me wants to keep it and restore it, but I know I could use that money somewhere else, like to restore my 352. But then again you don't see a 343 everyday, however it is a franken watch. It actually looks nice in the sun and I know it would look nice when the dial is restored and those rose gold markers and hands are polished. After a good suggestion by Rusty about what to do with the funds from my eBay sale that went much higher than expected, I went on the hunt again. I'm in the midst of changing a few priorities in my collection, and one mistake I had to rectify was the lack of a top-notch vintage Hamilton. I'm looking more for popular solid gold models pre-1970. I just won a StormKing 14K solid gold for a great price, and it's in fantastic shape. It's from the same dealer I purchased my recent Elgin so I know it's in as good or better shape than described. I sent the link to my watchmaker and he said he really liked it - then gave me the business end. He said he would consider it a bargain at $400 (and you know he's looking at it from a margin/resale standpoint) and I got it for just a little more. I've been VERY lucky lately, and I'm hoping it holds out for one more deal in the works. Cross your fingers for me and look for a post titled "Anyone for Pie?" thread in the next few weeks. DSSD - is the black less popular than blue?
Setting aside the new DSSD and the changes made access both the blue and black models. Just speaking to the blue vs black. I see a lot more discussion of the James Cameron Blue model. I am on the waitlist for the new blue DSSD but the more I think about it I may like the black version better.Why does the all black seem to get less love?
