Jaeger LeCoultre Q183T770 wrist watches news:
I got to snooping around in some old boxes mainly from Grandpa and Grandma, and lookie what I found! A Hamilton watch box! Felt something inside it, sorta heavy...like a watch! so I opened it up and....!****, just a bunch of cheap costume jewelry, a Seiko and a Timex. Ah well, can't win 'em all. So anyway, am I just keeping some scrap cardboard around, or does a cardboard box with 'Hamilton' on it have any worth? I mean, I don't expect it to be a 100$ box, but I'd like to know if it's worth it to not pitch it into the fire pit.
I just had an eBay buyer return a Hamilton Electric watch claiming it was a redone dial and he wanted an original dial. I would have though it was original, but he makes some good points. Specifically, he says the proportion of the word "electric" to the word "Hanilton" looks off. He also felt that some of the chapter/hour markers looked too rounded (not square enough) indicating a poorly done redial. There are no markings on the back of the dial indicating any dial work was done. SO, how can I tell if it's redone. In general, how can I tell if any watch for sale has a redone dial? Thanks for any help.-Chris
Some of you may remember this sweet Waltham , 15 jewels and it's large ! .....( and if anyone can tell me what era it was made in I would greatly appreciate it) ......I'm thinking late teens, early 20s ? ......Anyway, it was listed as being running, but when I got it .....it wouldn't .....I have been carrying it around in my purse ( in a plastic bag ....) and took it out to show a friend and while I was telling her that it didn't run, I was idly turning the crown ....egad ! the crown turned ! ......and then the little second hand started to move .....it was running !!!!!.......and so it has been it's been 6 hours and it's keeping pretty good time too !!!!and I did promise the movement shot ......and this shot shows the pretty detailing on the side of the watch .....and I am well and truely pleased.....but what had put the cherry on top is that this watch ....a serious contender for Salleh's Favorite Watch of the Year .......started running too !....sold as non-running, and the crown
I posted about my vintage watch earlier today and that spurred me to do some research. Turns out its a ref 165.002. Looking online though, there seem to be several very different versions of this watch; including face and hands. Is this normal? Thanks a bunch, still learning.:)
