Vintage 50's-60's Benrus 'Shock Absorber' wristwatch. USA or Swiss?
I went to a few flea markets today and picked up a new watch!This was sitting in the bottom of a little display case. Everything was 50% off, it was originally 15$, so I got it for 7.50! Not a bad deal IMOThe watch works great actually. I wound and set it, and it seems to have kept up (might be losing seconds, I don't know). It's in OK shape overall. The dial is great and the front looks fine, but the back has some BAD case wear The band is a Speidel, as usual. Do you think that 8$ went to somethin' good? I wish the back wasn't so worn but I don't think it matters too much. Vintage Watch 'Dump'! Bulova auto, Accutron, Wittnauer, Longines!!!
I've been slacking off, I'm sorry!Recently I've come across some pretty cool watches, but I haven't been posting them since I was busy. Well, now they're all going up in one fowl swoop! Hope you guys don't mind my sucky pictures I'm trying out a new camera, and yes I know it looks yellow. Thanks to a crap desk lamp.First up, the Longines Price Paid - $35 (came in a lot)I gathered that it's from around the 50's, it's white gold filled and the gold fill seems to be in very good shape. The dial is a cool black, which I haven't seen. The bezel is under the crystal, which is pretty neat. It runs well, the movement is a 17 jewel and very clean!Next, a stainless steel Bulova automatic. Price Paid - 6$This one's a cool one! No crown, but it works ok, you can wind it by moving it around, and right now it seems to be running.The dial is cool! I didn't notice it until I bought it. It's kind of a faint hourglass shape, when you get it just right it looks amazing!Next up, a Wittnauer '2000' calenda

Upside to letting auto's wind out?
Does anyone here ever let their auto's wind completely out? I'm just curious 'cause I'm having problems with mine again, (the Guess from my sig) where it sometimes will stop for a few hours or sometimes end up a few minutes behind, for no apparent reason . I have dropped it in the past, and tapped it off the occasional doorknob/wall.A while back I let it wind completely out and rewound it to full and it was dead on (+4 seconds/day, iirc ), and it was perfect for a few weeks and now it's starting to lag a few minutes, sometimes a few hours. Just a random thought I just had, may be sleep deprivation, may be a good idea (at least till I can get it to a good watch shop ).

Swiss Made?? Swiss??
Can someone concisely explain this to me in terms someone of low to mediocre intelligence (like me) can understand. Everytime I try to figure it out I get confused as hell.The only one I can solidly get a grip on is Swiss Made = Swiss made parts, assembled, cased and final inspection completed in Switzerland.Then things get weird for me, because I can't figure if "Swiss Made" can also mean a watch assembled in Switzerland where 60% of it's value is comprised of Swiss components. Or "Swiss Made" can mean the watch is assembled is Switzerland from a minimum of 50% Swiss components. Is this correct? Is it either/or? Does it have to be both? Do the new Swiss guidelines change any of it?Then there is the "Swiss" designation which seems to mean Swiss parts assembled and cased elsewhere such as Asia? From Swiss parts? From Swiss movement designs but no actual Swiss made components? Under Swiss management in a Swiss owned facility? I don't understand when/where the Swissiness disappears. Does
