I received this watch at work along with other items that I purchased back in the early 80's. The funny thing is, at first, I thought it was a five & dime store reproduction of the old railroad pocket watches! Worthless! I felt this way initially because of the pristine, new like condition it was in. The owner thought it was silver and heavy and that's why he wanted to sell it.It sat in a drawer for many years, and one day several years ago I decided to check it out on the internet.NEW ERA was made by New York Standard, which made 30 million watches from 1888 to 1929. It's a 7j, 18s, circa 1908. I still know very little about this watch, but I think it was very inexpensive at the time, maybe a couple of dollars. The case was used by many of the major manufacturers of the day, including Elgin, Hamilton etc. I have never found this exact watch on the internet. The dial that I have is the only one intact, and have only seen one other watch with a Hamilton movement and the same engraved
Hey Guys, I was talking home the other day staring at my watch, as one does. And I noticed that my double baton hour markers are slightly off, the one on the right is like 1mm lower. Now that I noticed it I can see it all the time. Am I crazy and it's just the light? If it is off do you think AP will fix it?I know it's hand assembled but I thought the cut to place the indicators in was cut by a machine.
I have a problem with my buckle on my Panda .I was at a function recently and found myself fighting my buckle each time I applauded the speaker because it kept coming undone. The buckle does not usually come undone except for when I clap my hands.Has anyone else experienced this issue?
With the help of a great trf member I have just traded to get this watch in my collection. I have owned the 441 before and loved it, but the 438 is a totally different animal with amazing wrist presence. I'd love to hear what everyone thinks of this model as it's rarely discussed.I'll add in hand pics over the weekend! Dan
