The New Sapphire Caseback for Rolex Watches By Thomas Preik
Two years ago, I ordered some sapphire case backs for from German manufacturer Thomas Preik which I installed on my Rolex Daytona 116520, and on my Rolex Yacht-Master 16622. You can read about it in my article on Modifying and Upgrading Your Rolex by clicking here.Thomas has recently released a new design for his sapphire case backs, and he sent me one for review. The new case back now has the familiar grooved teeth design which is consistent with the stock Rolex stainless steel case back. Here's a photo of the new case back (left) next to the old design (right) so you can see the difference:

Longines Master Collection vs Raymond Weil Maestro Phase de Lune Semainier
Back into the search mode. Two watches I like, are the Longines Master Collection L2.673.4.78.3 and the RW Maestro Phase de Lune Semainier Screen Shot 2013-06-29 at 9.03.46 PM.jpgScreen Shot 2013-06-29 at 9.04.01 PM.jpgVisually, I like the RW a bit better, because I simply don't have any great use for a chronograph. The RW simply looks cleaner. Some neat features of the RW are the pushers built into the case and that not only is the month displayed, but it is ticked off by weeks.With that being said, I can't seem to find what movement RW uses in this watch. I'm assuming it is an ETA, but not sure. Some negatives I've found are that the dial is stamped and the blue hands are painted.But, in my mind, I know the Longines is probably the better watch, mechanically. I'm not sure what ETA movement is in it, but it does have a 46 hour reserve.So anyway, your 2¡é is appreciated.By the way, I found two local AD's who carry these watches and the Longines is only $200 more than the RW at the

After a frustrating 4+ hour drive home in this snowy mess, Windy handed me 4 packages that arrived today!From left to right: a NOS (modern) replacement crown for my Omega Centenary, an Omega Gen¨¨ve Dynamic caliber 565, a Zenith El Primero caliber 3019, and my IWC came back from some adjustments courtesy of the eBay seller's watchmaker. All of a sudden, the 4 hour debacle was erased from my memory! I'm doing an ongoing thread on another forum about the Zenith since it needs some TLC. Got a few of the absolutely wonderful Illumzenati crowd helping me source parts, and I'll be documenting the pieces as they come. I can't tell you for sure how long an El Primero has been on my Target of Opportunity list because it's been years. Finally found one that ticks many boxes on my favorites list. It's C-licious! Anyway, time for my buddy to do the happy dance!

Hi everyoneI was made very aware - generally watches aren't really the most sensible things to use as investments... But what I'm thinking now is retention vs depreciation - Would a calatrava like the new 5227 be considered more sensible option than some others? I was hoping (as its the only patek I like or can afford) that it would be a relatively safe purchase should I ever need to liquidate for residual valueNever having seen one second hand. And never having purchase a patek before - I'm looking for some views please from those who can talk from experiencePlease adviseMy other consideration was a white gold rolex Daytona. I know they're chalk and cheese. But theyre the same price and I'm attracted to both and so i need a way of making a decision.... I've noticed current WG Daytona's drop in value for about the 10 years to loose 40-50% .... Will a 5227 do that
