Corum Ambassador Ben Ainslie Sets Sailing Record
On July 11th 2009, Corum ambassador Ben Ainslie set a new elapsed time record for monohulls in the Transpacific Yacht Race. Sailing Alfa Romeo II (Neville Crichton¡¯s Reichel Pugh 100), Ainslie and crew made the 2,225-nautical mile crossing in 5 days, 14 hours, 36 minutes and 20 seconds. The crew beat the previous course record set by Hasso Plattner¡¯s Morning Glory in 2005 of 6:16:04:11 by over a day.The new record was the result of a very good team led by Neville Crichton. In addition to Ainslie, Crichton¡¯s crew included Stan Honey, Michael Coxon, David Endean, Ryan Godfrey, Stan Honey, Andrew Hutchinson, Phil Jameson, Lance Jenkins, Gavin McPherson, Peter Merrington, Murray Spence, Craig Sattherwaite, Joao Signorini, David Rolfe, Tony Mutter and Alfa¡¯s shore crew, Ian Goldsworthy. Back from London report
Started out at 5:30am in order to catch the Megabus to London at 6am. It was damp & cold, thought to myself, "is this going to be a miserable experience" but as we go closer to London, the skies started to clear. Arrived at Victoria bus station at 9:30am, so proceeded to Victoria Underground, stopping off at Wetherspoons for a farmhouse breakfast and coffee.Caught the tube to Green Park nr Piccadilly and proceeded towards the Burlington Arcade. Saw the Deepsea in the flesh for the first time. here's my thoughts about it. On first glance I thought, "wow what a watch" the writing under the crystal is quite neat and not as prominent as photos might suggest. The thickness of the case is unbelievable. I liked the material used for the bezel insert and also the flush, shaped crystal, plus the Clasp is an engineers dream. The watch does ooze quality.
