You can disagree with me but I think that watches containing hand-painted dials are pretty cool. Especially when the dials depict actually masculine things like dragons. Most of these watches seem to be of flowers, fairies, or family portraits. I can dig these. Not on a daily basis, but I can dig these pretty well.Angular Momentum is no stranger to hand-painted enamel dials. I am pretty sure that such is their current bread-and-butter. This new set called the 9 Dragons Collection has nine different watches each with a unique style of dragon on the dials. Each dial is done in a "Verre Eglomise" miniature painting, with a small opening cut into them offering a view to a time disc. I just finished reading "A GRAND COMPLICATION", written by New York Time best selling author Stacy Perman. It is the story of a Patek Phillippe pocket watch commissioned in 1919 by capitalist Henry Graves Jr. "The Graves Super Complication" as it became known later sold at auction in 1999 for $11 million at Sotheby's. When I first saw the book on the shelf in the New Arrivals section of my local Library, I had to check it out, you just don't see that many books with watches on their covers that are well, actually about watches. Perman does a good job telling the story of Henry Graves Jr. The capitalist that commissioned the watch known as "The Graves Super Complication" and James Ward Packard, Industrialist and inventor of the Packard Motor car. She defines the culture of both men and what led them to commission and acquire the watches they did. For me, even being a history buff, these first few biographical chapter were a little slow. Dear All,as I already wrote several times I have been considering for quite some times to get into AP with a RO, I had almost made up my mind and decided for the basic RO when a friend of mine pointed to me the triple date. I must confess that I had never heard of it, in fact I have never seen the watch except in photographs. The watch seems to have many advantages for me over a regular ROO: it is water resistent to 100M and antimagnetic (good for someone who is not so gentle on watches in general), it has small seconds at 6 position and a charcoal coloured face (I like this much better than either black or blue). The watch is now discontinued but as I wrote it is not difficult to find (one of our sponsors has one for sale which look fine), however I could find not much information about the movement (Cal. 2127) and seems to go, second hand, for about the same price of a new RO.
