A recent topic "Still Carry a Pocket Watch?" opened up a line of thought I must comment on.My Grandfather carried pocket watches until the day he died at 87 years old in 1992. In his case they were the most convenient option. When my Grandfather was 19 years old he lost an arm in the family cotton gin. Putting on a wristwatch isnt very easy when you only have one hand. When he died I discovered 8 pocket watches including the two he usually wore. A Hamilton "Railroad Watch" (992B? Maybe given to him by Great Uncle Robert who was a RR Engineer) he wore daily and a smaller and much thinner Hamilton he wore with dress clothes. I seem to remember at least a couple of Illinois and an Elgin with the rest being Hamiltons. I dont think they were all worn by him. Other older gentleman who where in Church or the Masons with him may have given him pocket watches they were no longer used as wristwatches became the primary choice. The Debaufre website shows replacement bezels for the Diver watch. I assume they must be replaced by a watchmaker/jeweler. Or are they replaceable by the watch owner (snap on/snap off) ??
