Hi gang,Have not posted here in a dog's age, actually been quite busy with other things but I have become ever so interested in the white dial Daytona. I have been perusing all the selling sites on the various forums and the prices (albeit quite high for a SS watch) are becoming a little more reasonable.Almost committed yersterday but just couldn't do it as there appeared to be an issue with the bracelet (seller has impeccable credentials) and said he would check out my concern but I am not holding my breath.I can wait and be prudent. Buying new as opposed to used I could save almost $2000.00.Anybody have any thoughts on my quest. Thanks,JimC
...may I introduce the new addition to my collection:Collection Complete
First, let me say that no sane person invests in watches as they rarely gain in value, and if they do, it's not enough to out-perform more traditional methods. Okay, now that we got that out of the way let's have some fun! What watches do you think have the best chance of gaining value over the years? It can be new or vintage. I'll stick with vintage for a couple reasons. One: you can get them for a fraction of what a new watch from the same company costs; two: the depreciation has already been suffered by the original purchaser. My first brand to watch is Jaeger LeCoultre. I can't believe they haven't already jumped in value! These are well respected by collectors and watchmakers alike, and have made movements for the Big 3 (AP, VC, PP). Their standards for testing are tougher than COSC is, and the manual wind dress watches with 88X series movements are elegant.Second on the list is Longines. My watchmaker calls them "sleepers" since he expects them to escalate and they are such
and replaced it with this Colt GMT. The longer I do the watch thing, the more I find myself gravitating to more moderately sized ones. The Steelfish was gorgeous, but I could just never get comfortable with the weight of it (am I a wimp?). The Colt is by no means a small watch, but it feels so much better . . . more like my Sub!
