The allure of mechanical chronographs is easy to pin down. ?Tiny little mechanisms, powered by springs, engage and disengage at the press of a button to time events, measure speed, distance or even heart rate. On the surface, the action of a chronograph is simple and often useful. Underneath, the movements that power these functions are very complex and often very beautiful. As with most things that are complex, mechanical chronographs tend to cost more than standard 3-hand watches. And if you are going to spend more, you should know a bit about what is out there. Chances are if you went into your local watch store, any mechanical chronograph under $2,000 would have the Valjoux 7750 movement in it. Ever been let down by a dealer?
Not a happy situation to be in nor a subject one normally delights in discussing but I as just wondering. It need not be your regular dealer of course. In wishing to maintain your custom, they would know better.Taking the hard and fast route I could say I had been let down once, a couple of years ago although the matter was eventually resolved. It was in respect of the Blue AT which had been manhandled by the dealer, a grey dealer if I may add. When I returned from town with it, I discovered that it had numerous scratches, not major ones but swirls and hairlines. Now I know it had been in the display and since I had purchased it at a great price I was happy for them to polish these out. Then a day later I notice that it was losing time, around 12 to 13 sec and eventually going out to -16 sec if I recall correctly. I love/hate my new camera.
I'm getting the hang of using it. I can get some nice close ups, and with practice I'm sure it will get better. But man, is it harsh on dirt and details - is this A HAIR ON THE DIAL?!?!?!? Could there be a worse place for one?The more I look, the more I think my DJ needs a trip to the spa.

Question about Hamilton bracelets
Of the four Hamiltons that I have owned (granted, one was the Pulsar digital), all have come on straps so I don't know about the heft and quality of their bracelets. Anyone own one on a bracelet? If so please comment.

Tools for resizing bracelet
So.. I got a new Omega Speedy Pro last night.I got it via mail ( I know , not quite the AD experience , but for a few hundred $ saving its okay me). Now I am trying to take a link out on either side - I could wait till Monday and go to a shop , but you know how it is... I want to wear it NOW.So are there any objects around the house that I could use to knock the pin out without scratching anything ( I have the hammer , looking for something to hit with the hammer). Tried a needle - too narrow and flimsy, tried a nail , just just too thick although that would, I think, work if it was the right sizeAny suggestions for a DIY job ??Thanks upfrontGreg
