Seiko SRP617 wrist watches news:
Just got it today. The watch itself is in great shape. The rolled gold is all there, minor scratches of course, but not dents, dings, or scrapes. The case back has a few scratches, but it is in good shape and crystal only has a few scratches as well. The movement is Elgin's American made 760 self winding movement with 30 jewels. The watch runs and it winds via movement and the rotor. Unfortunately, you can't wind with the crown. Genejockey alluded to this ailment on his blog, GeneJockey's Elgin Watch Blog: Technological Marvel, or Lemon? If I'm reading his advice correctly, he suggests just letting the rotor do the work. After eight hours, it is still running and right on time. For some reason, my iPhone makes it look like the hands and dial are dirty. The hands, dial, and markers are pristine, so that is just an artifact of the camera. This watch is extremely thin and is quite a change from modern watches in terms of size. I could get used to the lack of height, weight, and the
I am sure that many of the people you work with are aware of your addict...er...hobby. My boss and I have had several discussions surrounding fine timepieces. On occasion, we also get to talk with clients about their watches - if I notice something unique. My box has a Rolex Cellini and enjoys it quite a bit. It is his pride and joy from a watch standpoint. So, one day he mentioned that he had some old watches of his dad's and that he would give them to me. He has no children and preferred that they go to someone who would appreciate them. The topic was discussed and not brought up again. I had forgotten about it and then we met in Miami for a client of ours. My boss produced a ziplock bag with 3 watches. One a throw-away, one an abused Omega, and the last a Hamilton that had seen much better days.I refused the watches as I know he has a nephew - I said his nephew should have an opportunity to have "grandpa's watch". As we talked about the watches, he mentioned that he was pre
Many people on the forum have asked me how I polish watches so I wrote this up. When looking to purchase a watch that you have an interest in to cleaning-up or restoring make sure you select one that does not have any case brassing showing. Case brassing is when the gold plate is so worn-down that the case filling is exposed. Even though the filling has gold within it you will not match the existing plating on the outside of the case no mattering how much polishing you will do.WARNING and DISCLAIMER – Even though I’m sharing with you the methods I use, I’m not responsible for any damage that may occur to your watch. This technique was developed over time and is an art and skill that takes time to learn. I will also point out the equipment and supplies I use and where you may purchase them. With that said I must also state that in no way I have any affiliation with these companies. You can purchase your items anywhere you like. I’m just giving you refe
