There are many things we take for granted when speaking about modern timepieces, and one of those is water resistance. There are no "water proof" watches, as that implies water would not be able to enter them under any circumstances, so we use the term "water resistant." The history of water resistant watches really began in the 1920s, but it was not until later that the serious water resistant diving watch came into existence. Today dive watches are the most popular type of sport watch, not necessarily because people use them to dive, but because of their style, promise of durability, and utilitarian value.Regardless of whether one pays a few hundred or several thousand dollars for a watch, they rightfully expect reliability, accuracy, and comfort. Having said that, we are rarely reminded of just how much time it took wristwatches to transform from fragile pieces of art into workhorse instruments that can put up with most of the challenges we expose them to during our daily lives. Walking on air with my new Speedy Pro LE
Sometimes we look forward to something so much that it is inevitable that it doesn't live up to the expectations. However, in the case of my BNIB "LE Gemini IV First Space Walk 40th Anniversary Speedmaster Pro" (hereby known as the Blue-on-Blue) I was not dissapointed at all. In fact it has surpassed any expectations I had.The blue dial and bezel are simply stunning but, unfortunately, almost impossible to photograph to full justice. The hand applied hour markers and Omega symbol really emphasise the blue of the dial even further and add a real bit of class. On the case back is the usual engravings announcing the 40th Anniversary of the Sppedmasters first Space Walk and the limited edition number given to this wath. This all surrounds the ceramic and Sapphire Crystal "Patch" of the Gemini IV mission along with the two commanders names McDivitt and White. Even the box and warranty card holders are special. Picked up a piece that I have been thinking about for a while now; 44MM SS!I had debated the watch for a while and had sold my Panda a few months prior thinking I'd get this in 2013. The right watch popped up and I ended up getting it a bit earlier. Once I opened the box, I muttered some lovingly words, and experienced the singing A few random pics around the house, and a few with my friend Bill (WAK4) who also received it's brother in FC Bill and I also picked up some other watches very recently (him 15400 and me Daytona) also on the same day so we got some snapsGenta shotAnd a thank you to both Mike (mb23) and Oscar (bodybump) for your friendship and help on these pieces. Current PO or 2011 Version - Please help!
I am wondering if it is worth getting the 2011 version of the PO over the current one. This would be my first watch purchase and my local omega boutique tells me that it will cost $6000 compared to $4300 for the current version.Is it worth the extra cost?What are the main differences, and what affect will it have in everyday use.I am thinking of getting a 42mm, black dial and bezel, and non chronograph.Reference number: 2201.50.00Also, I'm wondering if $4300 is too much for the current version and what is usually the average cost for people.Any help would be appreciated.Thank you.

Do you really set the date on your Rolex?
Hello all. I now have two Omegas and one Rolex that have date windows. I obsessively set the time every morning on whatever I will wear for the day down to the exact second and I check it the next day too. That said, I never set the date, ever.Anyone else like this...obsessive about the time but could care less about the date function?
