Gold Wintex watch circa 1921
I have a gold wintex watch complete with orignal box circa 1921. It has an early Rolex movement and a black leather strap. Anyone got any further information and any idea of what is is worth.Anneanne23c@live.co.uk

Illinois Auction find
My wife and I went to a local auction today in Amish country that we frequently attend. Sometimes they have watches, always have some really crummy clocks. Today they had a nice Illinois "Aristocrat" Double sunk dial with a gold filled case that seemed like it was running pretty good. I have just recently been learning about pocket watches and thought I would give it a go. I don't think I overpaid, and the bidding "wars" are always fun. I have been looking for a nice "daily wearer" pocket watch that I can use for my cowboy action shooting costume and this will fit the bill nicely. It has a not so obvious scratch on the crystal from the 7 to the 4, and under magnification you can see that it was someones daily wearer because the bottom rim of the case has a wear (not through the gold fill) mark like it was carried crown up in the owners pocket. Tried on the new Da Vinci's today....
Both the Da Vinci Chrono & Da Vinci Auto (with the large date). Was at an AD and he just happened to have both in stock, both in white gold.So, impressions were good. The chrono is one big honking watch on the wrist. You just don't appreciate how large it is in the books IMO it's too big to be a dress watch. It's far more on the sport side than the dress side. BUT - it's very nice. I was just surprised at how big it was on the wrist, and I've got big wrists.The "smaller" Auto with big date was more my cup. Smaller than the chrono, it's still a very nice size, and the detail work on the dial was absolutely superb. I also like the big date complication. If I was buying one, the auto would definitely be the oneIn case you're not knowing which 2 I'm referring to, here they are....Da Vinci ChronoDa Vinci AutoThey look similar in print, but the Chrono is a huge 43mm x 51mm while the Auto is 'only' 36.5mm x 42.5mm

Rolex has released a new caliber...
For Baseworld, Rolex has released a new caliber, the 3255. New Rolex Calibre 3255 watches: Baselworld 2015Among the highlights, is that it has a 3 day power reserve, 14 patents, and the movement is calibrated to be twice as exacting as the COSC standard. Still, as I was reading the press release, many of the features reminded me of ETA's Powermatic 80, such as the new barrel, 3 days of power reserve, new, low friction materials, and COSC version.I realize that Rolex's new movement is produced to a much higher standard, and uses better materials, but shouldn't they have aimed a bit higher on the power reserve? It just seems to me, that at the prices Rolex commands, a seven day reserve should have been the minimum.I'm curious as to what you think and any insights you have on this new movement.

A little birdie tells me to get ready for a new updated 42MM offshore…… I am extremely happy about this, for me I think 42MM is a perfect size. Now, lets hope my birdie knows what he's flapping his wings about!
