The WWI"LATH" Trench Watch Crystal Guard turns 100 Years Old!
100 years ago this Sunday marks the centennial for one of the most iconic WWI crystal guards ever made, the Lath Guard.On January 17, 1916 a gentleman named Harry Daw filed a patent application with the United States Patent Office for a "protector for wrist watches".His patent application was later granted on December 11, 1917.Mr. Daw used the word "LATH" several times in the description of his invention so that is what it is called today, pretty simple.Mealy Manufacturing would come out with their version of this guard down the road and they called theirs "The Warrior".There are slight differences between the "Lath" and the "Warrior" guards, mainly the lug design and the number of laths used per size on the guards."Lath" or "Warrior" guards are rarely seen putting them on the top tier of the collectibility shelf, they also carry a pretty hefty price tag.I have had the privilege of having a few of them come across my work bench over the years.These trench watch crystal guards were avai

In the shop window (1st one that I have ever seen in the flesh)And it was for sale. Showa Dating on Warranty Card?
I'm considering bidding on a Speedy Pro on eBay. The watch was originally purchased in Japan and the description states that the warranty card is dated Showa 22 (2010) 4/03. Is anyone familiar with this type of date?The serial number is 77176xxx, which is typically associated with a watch closer to 2007, not 2010. Any insight is appreciated. My 4th Omega in 3 months?
It all stared a couple of months ago when I sold my Omega America's Cup on TZ to Charlie Hustle (who is VERY happy with it!) I then purchased a beautiful Aqua Terra white face with rose gold markers on TZ and I really liked that beautiful co-axial movement I admired through the exhibition caseback but it just did not smile at me... sold it again on TZ and then it was time to buy the classic SMP Chrono which I got almost like new you guessed it... on TZ. I was looking for another classic to add to my humble collection when along came Dapper Dan with a GMT 50th Anniversary for sale on TZ... which I am now the proud owner of!Here are the pics guys hope you like them and more will follow once the watch is in my possession... Omega has definitely become my new obsession!
