Seiko Power Design Project 2008 Results: Tokyo Looking Watches
Each year Seiko has a bit of a design competition in Japan called the Seiko Power Design Project. Utilizing a different theme each year, 2008 had 12 watches each named after a district or neighborhood in Tokyo. This is one of the very cool things that Seiko does, and I think that more watch companies should get involved in working with local artists to design watches that come from different points of view. The first Seiko Power Design Project was in 2002, and it has been occurring annually since. I am not sure exactly how the project is done, but the "winners" actually get their watches made. This means that as an artist, you can design a watch and actually have it be produced (if you are lucky), something that most people will never experience as watch production is no easy feat.The goal of the project is not all altruistic of course. Now I Know Why They're Called Bracelets...
I've become interested in men's watches from the 30s. Some of the designs are so unique to the period, and unlike the gazillion watches that are called 'Art Deco' on Ebay, they really ARE Art Deco.One in particular caught my eye - the Bulova American Clipper. It was made, as far as I can tell, from 1936 to 1940. It came with white and black dials, and plain or engraved bezels.I nabbed one a month or so ago, nonrunner, which is now off at my Watch Guy's for a spa treatment...I thought, 'One's enough', but then I saw one with a period-correct bracelet, and somehow I found myself bidding on it, and won!The problem is, although I find the bracelet fascinating - it's got a really cool clasp, and it really fits with the watch - when I put it on, it's just SO SMALL!!! I mean, it's a good fit - it's obviously a MAN'S bracelet - but it is so far outside the current aesthetic for mens' watches!I put it on, and my wife said, "Too Girly!". One of my coworkers said, "Wow, that's too Femmy." B

I will be in Edmonton next weekend and since provincial sales tax are basically half of my provincial sales tax, I may just pull the trigger, as that equates to an instant 8% discount. I am looking for a Sub, Tudor BB, or potentially a Explorer! Thanks in advance for your replies.
