Here is something you don't see every day. The intensely unique HMS watch line from true avant garde French watch maker JP Lepine Belharra is not seen very often. This boutique watchmaker hails from Paris, but has Swiss roots and has a handful of carefully crafted underwater machine looking watches. The HMS (probably standing for "Her Majesty's Ship") watch used JP Lepine Belharra's signature case, which is its most standout feature. The case itself is constructed from several parts and have articulated ball-jointed lugs. The cases are 40mm wide and known to be very comfortable. I like the use of contrasting polish and brushed steel. The watches are based on the designs from some of JP Lepine Belharra's ocean themed pen collections. Also notable is that Belharra makes the limited edition Titanic DNA pens for Romain Jerome.The face is not as "exciting" as the case, but it does not disappoint me. One of the most interesting complicated watches to come out of SIHH 2014 is without a doubt the Richard Lange Perpetual Calendar Terraluna from A. Lange & Söhne. It uses a regulator-style dial layout with the addition of a perpetual calendar, a 14-day power reserve, a constant force escapement, and a graphic orbital moonphase complication right on the plate of the movement. Modifying and improving an existing watch
I got this quartz Seiko for Christmas. The only problem with it is the mineral glass. That is a deal breaker for me. All of my watches are either plastic or sapphire. I can't deal with mineral glass. So I took this in today to my friendly watch maker. He gives me big discounts on everything and sells me vintage stuff (he always keeps the great ones for himself!). So, for $70 bucks or so, I changed out this crystal to sapphire. NOW it is a fine quartz watch that will look brand new for the next 20 years! Throwing on a sapphire is about the best thing you can do to a low cost watch. Here is what it looked like out of the box. The sapphire adds a slightly deeper color which looks great. I'll put up a pic when I'm not watching Monday Night Football.

STATE OF THE COLLECTION....and considering a flip
I haven¡¯t made any changes to my little collection in almost two years now, but I seem to be developing an itch. I¡¯m considering buying a DJ41 with Jubilee bracelet, fluted bezel, and white face. I¡¯ve never owned a Jubilee, and now that it has an easylink I ¡°feel the need¡±.I reduced my collection from 6 to 4 a few years ago (with plenty of flipping along the way) and really don¡¯t want to have more than 4 again, so I would probably sell my Explorer II. I suspect the DJ would make an interesting variation. I¡¯ll put pictures in the next post (as soon as I¡¯ve switched to Tapatalk), and will appreciate any opinions....
