- This watch is beautiful. Love the two tone look and the price was great. The only thing I have a blem with is that it is quite large and I need to take to a jeweler to have a few links taken out but otherwise its a keeper!

There are several different ways to cover a watch case with a protective or decorative material. Besides electroplating (also known as ElectroDeposition) there is Chemical Vapor Deposition and Physical Vapor Deposition. Both methods have many industrial applications. CVD is the method used to deposit thin surfaces on semiconductors and to make synthetic diamonds. PVD is the method used to apply the metallic film to snack bags and coat tools with harder substances. Recently watchmakers have found these processes can suit their purposes. The layers formed with either method are 2 - 10 microns thick, averaging 3 - 5 microns, and can be polished after completion.CVD is less commonly employed since it can create hazardous byproducts. To coat an item, it is placed in a low pressure reaction chamber. Measured quantities of various gases are pumped into the chamber and heated to 600˚C or higher. Generally, the higher the temperature, the less defects in the surface of the material. The ga

Speedmaster - leather strap or SS bracelet?
I just came out of a meeting with someone who was wearing their Speedmaster Pro on its stainless steel bracelet. It looked fantastic - very sexy. I also remember watching Apollo 13 with Tom Hanks (a great Speedmaster porn movie) and admiring all the Speedmasters on their metal bracelets.However, I have always preferred a leather strap on the Speedmaster. I am not a fan of the standard leather deployant model fitted by Omega on the Speedmaster (too bulky for my 6.5 wrist). My solution was to buy my Speedie Pro with the metal bracelet and then fit a traditional leather buckle black Omega strap in the Omega Boutique before I walked out with my new watch. It looks great and is a bit more vintage as well. Doing it this way was a little more expensive but I have the option of the stainless steel bracelet if I want it. Having seen the metal bracelet version today I'm tempted to go back to it.What do people here prefer - leather or metal ?
