Patek Philippe 5980/1A wrist watches news:
Yes, it's not my usual thing ;-) I picked it up on a whim for a song via eBay, and then ended up acquiring (inexpensively) a couple other bezel sets. All together now, my wife probably has close to 16 different bezels and multiple straps. Problem is, the movement isn't working well, and needs repair. Do any of you have a reasonable, but experienced watchmaker you could recommend to service this little Nivada jeweled (17?) movement? Updated below...Eric
Getting ready to fit the band.My cat came to inspect.Wrist shot.I can now cross a power reserve off my list of desired complications. The look of the watch is inspired by vintage motorcycles, and I think they were quite successful in working that in. I like the bolt head crown. The face has good depth and complexity without it being too cluttered for my taste. I like the way they painted the numbers on the inside of the crystal. It has an in house movement like all Orients. It's fairly large at 44m wide, and it's heavy. The clasp is simple and short, without that second fold over clip. As a result it doesn't have many notches for finer size adjustments like my Citizens and Seikos. As a result I had to pick between slightly tight and loose fitting. I can't stand loose fitting watches sliding around on my wrist so I went with a little tight. As a result of that and the weight I usually pick it out for occasions where I won't be wearing it all day long. That's my only complaint. It's been
I recently got into Longines watches. The other day I came across a watch I inherited that was my grandfather's only yo be happily suprised it was a Longines. The watch is very old, my estimate is about 70 years old. I've attempted to discover the model of the watch, but my research has turned up fruitless. Perhaps someone here can help me. The watch is 14K gold, with a square case. The dial appears to be a silver color with four diamonds at the 12, 3, 6 and 9 markers. The other markers are arrow-looking lines. Surrounding the markers are a set of approximately 6-8 lines running parallel to the case. The Longines logo is below 12 o'clock, and the name "LONGINES" is written below the logo. There are only hour and minute hands in silver. If this does not help determine the model and history of the watch, I'd be happy to send in a picture. Please let me know if you can help me.
What you guys think of this new watch from the Defy Xtreme collection?Zenith just released 3 new watch models on their website. I kind of like the new Defy Xtreme SEA.zenith-watches/script...gID=0&newsid=1I like the fact that Zenith push always further the development in term of watch evolution!!!Here's the Zero-G for half a million: Here is some details:The principal event of 2008 is the arrival of the 8800 Tourbillon Zero-G (zero gravity) movement, a major innovation in the world of watchmaking. This revolutionary system, which includes a gyroscope cage tourbillon and constant horizontal escapement, means the mechanism avoids the effects of gravity and thus gives considerably greater accuracy. At the same time, Defy Classic and Defy Xtreme are heading for the open with the SEA ranges that have a distinctly nautical look, unveiling the first of a three-part limited edition. Finally, Defy Classic has put three new complications into all-gold cases whilst Defy Xtreme creates a surpris
