Atomic clock radio signal syncing watches are so last year. Citizen just decimated the coolness factor of those watches with the Satellite Eco-Drive watch. This timepiece isn't just a concept, but will actually be produced as a limited edition later this year - and may have its tech show up in later watches. In a nutshell, the watch keeps its time super accurate from syncing with the navigational satellites that orbit Earth as opposed to syncing with radio signals that are broadcasted from local atomic clocks.Atomic clocks lose one second of time every 100,000 years or something like that. Another Elgin American automatic on the wrist.
This one’s for Doug. I got my Elgin 760 automatic running finally. You may remember in a previous post I mentioned having a 760 that had a bad pallet bridge. A previous owner had bent the bridge so it wasn’t flat anymore. This is the bad one.As you can see the bridge only has a single screw and if the two locating pins don’t seat into the pillar bridge all the way, tightening that screw down will warp the pallet bridge. There is a very small gap between the pallet bridge and the balance so if it sticks up the tiniest amount it will rub. You can see where I tried to restore the clearance by taking metal off the top after I got it as flat as I could. Obvoiusly I was not successful. Doug came to the rescue with a spare bridge and pallet fork and here is the result of the repair. I have seen this case in pics from Doug and Brad but this is the only exploded number dial I have seen. Now I have a large thin Elgin to counterbalance my Gruen and Bulova automatics.One more t

Question 1: Watch care
This is the first of two threads I’m going to post regarding a topic I want to learn more about.I guess there are two schools of thought regarding the disposition of antiques, in this case, antique or vintage watches: (1) a vintage watch should be maintained only to the level necessary that it is not completely destroyed and remains as an artifact and (2) a vintage watch should be maintained at all times in First Class, Grade A1 condition. Take the example I’ve illustrated below. The watch on the left is in its original state with all original components; however, it is not what I would call a functional device. The watch on the right is in excellent First Class, Grade A1 condition keeping perfect time and its appearance is stunning by comparison despite the fact it is probably twice as old as the first watch.
