I recently nominated a few key luxury watch brands for a reader poll on Luxistwatches-dealer. The poll was to determine what brand people considered to be the top luxury brand. Not exactly a scientific study, but it is interested to see what people who read the world's top luxury blog had to say on the topic. It wasn't too difficult to consider the nominees. It wasn't a matter of who necessary made the best looking or most mechanically perfect watches, but rather about perception.As such, I made the obvious choices. The five nominees where Rolex, Patek Philippe, A. Lange & Sohne, Jaeger-LeCoultre, and IWC. Four Swiss and one German high end brand. Prices really all over the place, but brands that many, many people would know. Each brand has plenty of offerings over $20,000 and each brand has at least a good portion of their watches with in-house made movements. GMT IIc bezel play
Hello all,Playing around with my 3 month old SS GMTIIc I discovered the following:1-Grab bezel with both fingers as if to turn the bezel either right or left. Without actually appliyng full force to jump bezel to the next hr mark, just wiggle softly left and right and you'll notice a very little play!! I asked RSC NY and they said it was normal.2-Also if you grab bezel with two fingers, one at 9 position(on dial reference position) and the other at three(on dial reference position) try to move it horizontally left and right and you'll also notice very little play(looseness)! Rolex also says its normal.If you try this with say the Sub, you won't get play, then again Rolex attributes this to new ball bearing system on new GMTiic.Can owners of GMTIIc or anyone else please clarify/verify this and confirm on their watch???( GMTIIc, if you own one)Any imput will be appreciated!!Ed

Late 30's Sivana Pilots Watch
I have owned this piece a few years. Watchmaker dates this to the late 30's. He also states that the watch was built as pictured, not a re-case. Did a little research on Silvana. Been around a long time with a hiccup in the 70's and a re-birth fairly recently. Looks like a Unitas Movement.

SMP 300 Ceramic..Different shades of blue?
Hi All,Was looking around on the Omega site and noticed that the blue shades are different. One is smooth dial the other the wave pattern. Is the smooth one the 2013 version? I have a 28mm electric blue before they were discontinued. I want to get an auto in a 36mm. I don't think an AD/Dealers would have a new mid size electric blue in their cases. The new ceramic blue looks brighter. I was never a fan of the wave pattern blue..seemed too dark and flat. I also have the black wave in the 28mm too. My most favourite watch. Does the Black ceramic have the wave pattern or is flat like the blue version? Just finding the 28's a bit small. Or is it cause my eyes are older? Lets stick with the size of the watch is too small. Does anyone have a pic of the new ceramic blue dial? Either mid-size or full size? Or any comparison shots? Opinions on the new blue? Thank you kindly..J

Anyone own the PAM505?
HI Guys,So after obsessing about Rolex, I'm kind of put off them with all the issues they're having etc. So I've started to look back at Panerai where I first started before I decided to go with Rolex.I've narrowed down my search to a PAM505, really like the look of this watch, but a bit concerned about the thickness. Comes in at a whopping 17.5mm. So does anyone own this particular watch and how is it to live with? Pictures would be great. I yet still need to go and try one on, but I've always loved the look of Panerai, and it will be my next watch to finalise my collection....for now lolI want an automatic, I know the manual watches are a lot slimmer but I can not be bothered with the winding, especially with a screw down crown, makes me uncomfortable. I'd be happy to hear of any other alternatives, but I am pretty set on the 505. Plus after that the prices shoot up quite a bit.Thanks for readingM.
