Spent some time with the new "Samo" next to its heavyweight brother 001 Sumo.Although reported as 42mm, the Samo is similar in size visually to the Sumo. The bezel lacks the semi-shroud of the original, the lugs are more angular but the most noticeable difference is the deep seated lug end pieces.One thing that surprised me is how well the Brightz Ti was finished. Seiko in the past tended to make the Brightz models a little "brighter" than SS to distinguish them but I was surprised by the consistency of finish between the Ti and SS models here. Previous versions of Diashield (Seiko's version of DLC) on the Spirit line showed telltale signs of coating but not this one. Really well done there Seiko.I had a hard time convincing myself it was Ti before I picked it up. Today I got my Accutron VX-200 Chrono (will make a separate Incoming! thread with pics :D) but I'm amazed by the thickness of this guy It's 16mm, my thickest watchmaybe it's not THE thickest watch available, but it's definetively thick...Why does the Valjoux 7750 is that thick? I guess that it has to be with the chronograph functions, right?, as I was measuring, and even the Planet Ocean (which is 600m WR) is less thickThe only thicker than the P.O. in my collection, are the Accutron Gemini and Tag Heuer Carrera(both Valjoux 7750)Anyway, they feel great in the wrist, their heaviness, and the way the rotor rotates free (no "brake") makes them special when wearing, I love that sensation of the watch pulling your arm off

Who plans going to Basel this year?
Does anyone know if Patek launch their new models the opening day of Basel, a few days before for the press?And who plans to go there? I will probably have to come back in France for business in March if I can I would like to try to go, is it possible to order a model there or is it just to introduce them to the watch loonies like us?My wife has a cousin who lives on the french side very close to Basel like this she could see her cousin and I could go see Patek.Do you need special invitations or you just need to pay the entrance?Thanks for your replies
