Philip Stein 1FFSMOPZPI wrist watches news:
As spring approaches, we check out new watches from Panerai, Bovet, Christophe Claret, F.P. Journe and many more. We also find out how time is kept and measured; pay a visit to Roger Smith on the Isle of Man; find out more about the story of one man¡¯s hunt for his grail watch; and get a rare sneak peek into the workshops of one of the biggest brands in the world, Rolex.1. Panerai Luminor 1950 PAM557 Destro 3 Days Watch Hands-On: A Lefty PAM372If you love watches from Panerai, the new PAM 557 Destro 3 Days Watch should be one to look out for. It is essentially a left-handed version of the earlier and extremely popular PAM 372, which I reviewed, and it was only announced this year at SIHH. Here¡¯s a quick look at this new highly anticipated watch.Source: watches-dealer2. Bovet Recital 12 Watch Hands-On: The Thinnest One YetBovet is an interesting brand that offers very classically-styled watches with heavily decorated movements and highly stylized dials. A slew of cool watches are on the discussion plate. We investigate the Christophe Claret Kantharos, Zenith Pilot Annual Calendar, Ressence Type 3, and Swatch's Swiss exclusive d'Schwizer watch (that is meant to be funny).Listen to the HourTime Show watch podcast episode 135 here. Download the mp3.
There are a lot of boutique dive watches available right now, many sporting the same cases, dials and movements. Smaller companies can't afford the cost of a custom design, so after a while many look the same. UTS, on the other hand, makes its own cases from steel ingots; you'll not see their designs used elsewhere. An interesting mix of angular lugs and round body, the UTS cases wrap nicely around the wrist and have a massive 5mm bracelet as a matching option.UTS has recently announced a new addition to the 1000m line, the 1000m GMT using the ETA 2893 movement. Otherwise the same as the diver Ariel reviewed, (Ed. - readers, please note that contributor Paul Hubbard wrote this article) the 24h hand and small UTC track really add to the appeal of this watch. Available in a variety of dial and hand colors, the high-contrast white on black really does it for me.Add in the two year warranty, two-layer SuperLuminova lume, anti-reflective sapphire crystal and you've got a winner. So Rolex had significant bannerage on TZ for both the Rolex and Tudor brands....looks like that ended a couple of weeks ago? What was the deal? Was it just a trial run for a month? Anybody have the scoop?
I know we always hear about great customer service from AP and their service centers and I just wanted to share another example. On March 2nd I sent my Plat 44mm offshore and my wife's Lady RO to APSC Clearwater for the pressure test and to activate the 3rd year warranty. They called me as soon as they received the watch and told me they would notify me by email once they were able to fully check the watches. A week later they called and sent an email notifying me that the 44mm offshore was magnetized and the Lady RO was not keeping proper time so they were going to do a full movement service and extend the warranty another 2 years on both watches. It’s nice to know that when you send your watches to AP they do a full function and timing test and not just a pressure test. Got my 44mm back Thursday of last week in time for the 3 day weekend and the Lady RO is due back next week. 1 month turnaround time for a full service and extending the warranty 2 more years (for a total of
