hi gang,just started the process of house hunting to take advantage of the dip in the market and that got my juices flowing for my other passion, cars!!!i have always been a car guy and have owned quite a few nice cars buthad to sacrifice all that living in nyc. as soon as i move though it's going to be about the car :)i have found myself researching cars instead of watches and frankly i don'tmiss the watches much.probably a function of grass is greener on the other side but rest assured whenever we find our house it will have to have a big garage!!!i currently have 9 watches and will keep three and sell the other six to finance a ridiculously overpriced, impractical car:)hope this doesn't come off as a downer because i don't mean it that way but i just reached a point where i needed a change. i like vintage watches but it has just gotten ridiculous in price and i found myself worried more about the watch value rather then just appreciating the piece. i think i just burned myself ou

Elgin watch model?
Just got this one back from the watch doctor today:Not sure what model it is but I like the engraved sides and the "coin edge" detail around the bezel:Movement dates to 1930. Elgin database says its a 7 Jewel model 485, size 4/0.And the case was made by the Illinois case company for Elgin:Anyone know what model name or number this one is? thanksMark S.

NYC or MIA boutique for best experience?
I'm going to be on the market for a 2 AP's in the near future, one will be a Lady Oak 67650ST for my soon to be fianc¨¦, and the second for myself being the 15202ST Jumbo. The Lady Oak will come first as she will be graduating from law school and I want to mark that moment in time with something special she can remember everyday as she starts her day. My RO will be for our wedding, which I know because of its limited production and wait list adds a layer of complexity to it all. I¡¯m planning on putting down the deposit at the same time of her purchase. I know the most cost protective route is through a trusted forums seller. However, I've been reading previous post on buying directly from AP and the experience/perks that come with it. 16610 next to 116610
Had a small gathering with a few watch enthusiasts here in Montreal tonight. It was organized by Canadian watch collectors and WatchPaper.Had the chance (for the first time) to see small and big, old and new or 16610 and 116610 next to each other. Although the 16610 is somewhat more charming, with the smaller markers, black bezel and tapered lugs - I can safely say the 116610 is a sure better option for me.
