My Grandfather's Pocket Watches.
A recent topic "Still Carry a Pocket Watch?" opened up a line of thought I must comment on.My Grandfather carried pocket watches until the day he died at 87 years old in 1992. In his case they were the most convenient option. When my Grandfather was 19 years old he lost an arm in the family cotton gin. Putting on a wristwatch isnt very easy when you only have one hand. When he died I discovered 8 pocket watches including the two he usually wore. A Hamilton "Railroad Watch" (992B? Maybe given to him by Great Uncle Robert who was a RR Engineer) he wore daily and a smaller and much thinner Hamilton he wore with dress clothes. I seem to remember at least a couple of Illinois and an Elgin with the rest being Hamiltons. I dont think they were all worn by him. Other older gentleman who where in Church or the Masons with him may have given him pocket watches they were no longer used as wristwatches became the primary choice. Not long time ago I bought a Rolex Explorer II 42mm polar. Right now I only have two watches, Explorer and Deep Sea, the DSSD is my favorite one. Long time ago, I had a Breitling B1 Super Quartz, I loved it but was obly 30 meters...So here is the thing, do you think I'll do right if I sell the Explorer and buy the new Breitling Avenger 2 Chrono (grey/brown dial) with bracelet and maybe later leather and rubber.If I do that, I'll keep more than 1k � in my pocket, but I don't do it thinking in money. So my PAM Booklet tells you me that if your watch has been sitting for a while, give the watch a few winds at the zero position of the crown...Now we all know with a Rolex, it's forty turns of the crown or so for a full wind.What constitutes a full wind on say a 312?
