Arnold & Son TB88 "Inside Out" Watch
Now, here is an interesting new watch that I wasn't expecting from UK based Arnold & Son. The concept is that the movement is "inside out," well sort of. Basically what you see on the dial is typically what you would see on the rear of the watch. Arnold & Son isn't the first to offer a watch that applies this concept, but their new TB88 does that and has a few more tricks up its (exposed) sleeve."TB88" sounds like some super mutated version of tuberculosis. I don't want to contract TB88! There should have been a better name. TB actually stands for "True Beat," which is Arnold and Son's way of saying dead-beat seconds. This complication has been given a lot of names over the years. It refers to a seconds hand that ticks, but is part of a mechanical, not a quartz watch. Ticking seconds hands have been around for a long time, but since quartz watches came around people began to associate them with cheap timepieces. Oris BC3 Sportsman 42mm Watch
More relatively affordable Swiss watch action from Oris. New for 2010 is this updated BC3 Sportsman model in a 42mm case. This is about as no nonsense as you'd want to get with a watch, and Oris keeps all the functionality you've come to expect in this collection. For years that have been centrally aligning the day and date windows for a nice clean look. As you can see, at 6 o'clock you have two stacked windows with the calendar information. Done well with white text on black discs to match the dial. Hands are long and easy to read, almost as though the watch were a dive watch. The hands and some of the numeral markers are coated in SuperLumiNova for ease of reading. That combined with the well placed markers make this one highly legible watch. The Arabic numerals on the dial are polished steel, and applied to the dial.Oris watches never forgo at least some decoration. I did not notice it in person whilst I was at the boutique .
