I found a twin to my other Benrus alarm watch (which is posted below) at a flea market Sunday for $20. It was covered with dirt, but for that price is there to lose. It isn't like I need two Benrus alarm watches that are exactly the same, but I couldn't resist at that price. I spent this afternoon cleaning it up. Amazingly, once I removed the grime from the nooks in the case and from around the crystal and lugs, and then polished the crystal, it looked pretty good. I probably spent two hours carefully carving the dirt out. Any place there was a crevice, there was dirt. The crystal wasn't deeply scratched, but it looked like someone rubbed it with steel wool and didn't know how to polish it.The crystal is in great shape and once you could see the dial and hands, both of those are pristine. Even the caseback looks great. The only negative is a dent which when through the gold plating into the base metal. And in general, the case seems a bit more "used". So here's the first Benrus
Recently purchased American Watch Co (Waltham) Wm Ellery 777352 pocket watch. It runs Ok not really experienced but I'd call it beating kind of weak. It keeps pretty good time. I notice it doesn't run down very much then stops. If I wind it it only takes about 5 half turns to full wind. I've noticed that if I move the hands with the key it starts running again. Since I discovered this I'm going to repeat the process to find out if the main spring takes more turns to rewind and if it runs as well as it runs down. Basically what does the symptom of restarting a stopped watch by moving the minute hand say about the watch workings?Thanks for the info.
I'm conflicted now. Which would you guys pick? The new RG ROC on a leather strap with brown or blue dial (probably would change blue strap on blue dial to black). Or the new RG ROO? Also I'd be willing to wait till next year to get the in house movement in the ROC. This choice would be a lot easier if I could afford the RG ROC on a bracelet .
Just for fun, lately I¡¯ve been thinking about what would be my Rolex & Patek duo of choice for life (I don¡¯t know why, since I¡¯m not looking to purchase). After much thought I¡¯ve come to the conclusion that I would pick my SubC Date and the 5712. I think they compliment each other very well and I¡¯m very casual so I dont need a dress watch.
