In 1874 Georges Edouard Piaget sets up his first workshop on his family's farm and devotes himself to creating precise mechanical clock movements for prestigious watch companies. The small shop quickly gained business and soon the family business switched from farming to watch-making. Edouard's son, Timothee Piaget, took over the family business in 1911 and continued the same pursuit of quality as his father before him.
In 1943 the Piaget brand name becomes officially registered and they began producing watches under their own name. In 1945 they opened a new facility at La Cote-aux-Fees where the brand would become the creator of completely new developments in mechanical movements.
In 1957 a new movement, Calibre 9P, was developed at the new facility. This movement was an impressively thin manual wound movement. Just a few short years later in 1960 Piaget developed the slimmest self-winding movement in the world, the Calibre 12P, which was just 2.3 millimeters thick.
In 2004 the brand celebrated 130 years of watchmaking and jewelery design. Among the brands popular jewelry collection is the Possession line which was launched in 2005.
So I have been bitten by the watch bugs as of late and been browsing over at eBay. I see one seller has a watch listed as a women's model, and with the trend to bigger watches I could see this mistake. Now the seller also has listed that the watch was working he had it checked and it just needs a battery. Here's the thing, its an automatic. So what do I do? Its obvious the other bidders know whats up. It gets me that someone asked if it worked, and that was the response. Just needs a battery. I'm not positive its not a quartz, the brand "could" have made them or someone swapped out the movement with one b/c the jewel count is marked on the dial. Anyone else run across this? In the interest of fair play does one mention it? I am from the stand point that the seller, if he never knows what its worth, will be happy with what he gets for it. Kind of like the garage sale finds you see on Antiques road show; that I guy bought a box of old/junk "whatever" and found gold.
Talk about crazy...a trusted seller is asking over $29K for an unworn 15202. Any takers??
Had been casually looking for a speedy and really liked the 3570.40 with the racing dial. They don't come up that often Hodinkee had one on their Friday feature from HQ milton and it sold in an hour for $5500 with no papers. Then I found one all complete and pretty unworn but they guy wanted $7500!resorted to just doing a dial swap... Even was in Tokyo and asked everywhere and ppl just laughed or shook their head. Then while in Miami of all places one pop'ed up. it was head only but had the original hand tag and the serials all matched up! I paid what I think was fair considering they don't show up often and I was in town. Been love ever since. the color combo IRL is stellar and and the pics online can't even compare. been wearing it non-stop and its kindled a desire for more speedy's!Bought a 1125 for it (need proper end links, can anyone help? called around none avail) and love the 1125 its a cross between a jubilee and sub bracelet. Does anyone have any info on the release date of this piece? I was told months ago that this would be released in late 2013 by Tiffany and Co. in NYC but failed to see it in this year's Baselworld line up or on Patek's site. Any info would be appreciated.
