In 1874 Georges Edouard Piaget sets up his first workshop on his family's farm and devotes himself to creating precise mechanical clock movements for prestigious watch companies. The small shop quickly gained business and soon the family business switched from farming to watch-making. Edouard's son, Timothee Piaget, took over the family business in 1911 and continued the same pursuit of quality as his father before him.
In 1943 the Piaget brand name becomes officially registered and they began producing watches under their own name. In 1945 they opened a new facility at La Cote-aux-Fees where the brand would become the creator of completely new developments in mechanical movements.
In 1957 a new movement, Calibre 9P, was developed at the new facility. This movement was an impressively thin manual wound movement. Just a few short years later in 1960 Piaget developed the slimmest self-winding movement in the world, the Calibre 12P, which was just 2.3 millimeters thick.
In 2004 the brand celebrated 130 years of watchmaking and jewelery design. Among the brands popular jewelry collection is the Possession line which was launched in 2005.
I wanted to double up on my coverage of nice, (relatively, in the luxury watch sense) affordable military style watches that were unveiled at Baselworld 2010. I just spoke about the Tag Heuer Formula i Khaki that has a green military strap and dial. Now I would like to share with you the new Bell & Ross BR03-92 Military Ceramic watch. Put in the BR03 case which is 42mm wide, the watch is in a matte finished ceramic in green. Cool! The olive drab green color of the case is lighter than the dark green of the dial. The Bell & Ross BR01/BR03 dial is based on military fonts and a high legibility style - so it looks right at home. The label of "Military Type" is on the dial of the watch in the version I sampled, but not in the marketing image. Hard to say what will be in the final version.The ceramic that Bell & Ross uses feels nice in the hand, and has the same level of detail and angle crispness that metal has. I am located in the US.CV7A10.FT6012I have had some email correspondances with the Westfield Tag store in London, who have been VERY responsive to me. I am doing my background check on them to make sure they are reputable. Has anyone purchased anything from this store before?Also, to my surprise, they are able to ship to me. Other stores in the UK has emailed me back and said they cannot ship to the US. Any thought as to how they are able to do this? They said free shipping, but will I get hit with a customs charge? How much? Hey Fellas, just came across this on my FB. Seems that they have pro models in stock. They are the only AD in PR and I've purchased from them. Maybe they can do a phone order and ship to the states since PR is a US Territory. Things there are not that good after the hurricane so I'm assuming you might even get a deal. Its worth the shot!
