The first time I ever read anything about the IWC Mark series, it was thanks to (of course) everyone's favorite non-watchmaker watch writer, the inimitable Walt Odets, who in his series, "Tweaking The Mark XII" called that particular Mark "every non-pilot's favorite pilot's watch." (I call Mr. Odets a non-watchmaker but of course, while he might not be a card-carrying full time professional, he obviously is a guy who knows his way around a movement, to put it mildly.) I am always amazed when I see a seller on the swamp list a "not quite right" but otherwise desirable watch that goes unsold because of a ridiculous "BIN" or reserve price. A month or 2 ago a seller listed an otherwise nice white Illinois Viking (Special Model 195) with an obviously incorrectly redone dial. At the time I told the seller of this, and he and I shared a few emails where I explained to him what was wrong with the dial, and I also informed him that the comparable example he cited in "Shugart" was also incorrectthe seller eventually seemingly agreed. We even shared an email about how for less than $30 he could have the dial redone by Int'l Dial, and then likely sell the watch for what he hoped to get for it. Now it is again being listed with the same bad dial with the following STILL in the listing: "I believe this dial to be original". Stupidity and ingorance are one thingbut this seller is simply being DISHONEST. Is it JUST ME??
I've been drooling over Breitling watches for awhile now, in particular the newer 44mm SuperOcean Steelfish with the arrow second hand. Howdy, just got an old diver (surprise) in nice condition. Watch ticks with the second hand always moving, but the hour and minute will stop at 4 and not advance when the watch is set to between 4 and 6, but will move from 7 to around 9, then move again from ~12-4.There is nothing obstructing the hands, and the watch can be set just fine all around the dial, so I guess the minute wheel is okay?sounds confusing I know......any ideas?thanks!
