De Bethune Demonstrates R¨¦sonique High-Frequency Escapement Breakthrough
For the past several years, De Bethune has focused its research efforts on developing super-high-frequency escapements. Currently, most escapements operate at 18,000 to 36,000 vph (2.5 to 5 Hz). In 2006, De Bethune demonstrated an experimental 72,000 vph (10 Hz) silicon escapement. Their latest efforts involve engineers, watchmakers, and a physicist, all working to develop a next-gen escapement powered by non-mechanical forces.As De Bethune explains in its latest press release, taking traditional mechanical escapements beyond 10 Hz is not feasible due to reliability issues arising out of mechanical resistance and basic wear-and-tear problems.To advance the science of mechanical timekeeping, De Bethune is employing some non-traditional forces, namely synchronization between an acoustic resonator and a magnetic escapement rotor, operating in a mechanical watch. We've covered Sinn plenty in the past, so most of our readers already know the spiel when it comes to this German favorite. But outside of their line of rugged over-engineered mechanical wonders, Sinn is also known for producing some fantastic low-tech entry-level watches like the 556, the recent 104, and the discontinued 656. Most who handle these timepieces would agree that their level of finish puts other brands selling similarly priced watches to shame.However, none of these hold a candle to my favorite timepiece in their more affordable line-up, the Sinn 356 PILOT chronograph. In many ways, the 356 is everything one could hope for in a military-inspired tool watch, which shouldn't come as a shock since the design is reminiscent of a pilot chronograph favorite, the IWC 3706. Looking to find out if anyone here knows where I can buy the movement its comes out of Hong Kong My sturhling original has this movement but some how the teeth to mainspring barrel wore out believe or not just small section . Just watched the movie Wolf of Wall Street with DiCaprio and really enjoyed it. Here is the real Jordan Belfort with an AP. Sharp looking watch. I didn't see any APs in the movie though.
