I saw an article on the Fox News website yesterday about technology items that are becoming "extinct". One of those items the author declared was extinct was wristwatches. Apparently, with cell phones and other devices having the time on them, wristwatches are no longer being worn..."except by those that grew up with them".I agree that cell phones and mobile PCs, and iPods all will let you know the time; wristwatches do it with more style and elegance than the other devices. Wearing a watch is not always just having the time handy (and to me it's still easier to look at my wrist than pull my phone off my belt), it's about having a product that has style (anything from Rolex to Timex has style as far as I'm concerned). It's also about having something that in many cases is hand built with tolerances that require the utmost skill to pull off. It's about technology that will never become obsolete. I have owned a couple omegas in the past . 300m sea masters.I have been digging the PO 45.5mm 8500 for a while now. I stopped in an AD I was walking past to check out an exp 2 and noticed they now carried omega. They never used to. It's the first time I have been able to handle those brands side by side. I like bigger watches (I'm 6-3, 8 flat wrists, work out etc) so for me IMO anything smaller than 43mm usually starts to look to small. For me right now, the PO on bracelet with 3 orange markers is perfection. It will be my next watch.
I'm sure you hardened veterans have seen this a million times - a Rolex newbie trying to talk himself into doing something crazy...There is nothing rational about wanting a 116506, but here is the twisted logic I have created for myself, after going back and forth for several months now:1) The watch I spend the most $$$ on should be the one I wear the most. Therefore, a precious metal daily wearer.2) If it is going to be a daily wearer, then it has to be able to stand up to the abuse. Therefore, a sub/daytona/gmt.3) If it is going to get scratched up from daily wear, I need to be able to polish it on occasion without having to worry about wearing away the metal. Therefore, platinum. I can appreciate the patina, but then I can polish it back up and appreciate the bling every now and then. Ergo, must get Platinum Daytona. Oh yeah - and I also think it is a stunner, and I like the heft of it. And I can go back to my BLNR if I ever come to my senses.How does this sound? Am I missing anyth
